Conditions were right and the planet gave life

We built up our fields with mountains of steel

It piled up over the years
Poured in the rivers and dumped in the seas

Now the Space Station's up and the Cold War's behind us, we’ve all got computers hooked up to remind us how far that we've come now; the job that's assigned us to keep pushing forward; who knows where the future will find us

And in every house, on every street
We believed that we were safe
So we started to plan for the next stage of Man
With our heads back we looked up towards space
