FLOYD GIBBONS (1887-1939) Gibbons began working as a correspondent for the Chicago Tribune in 1907 and became that agency's chief reporter on the western front. While reporting on the Battle Of Belleau Wood he lost an eye while attempting the rescue of an American soldier and was sub sequentially awarded France's highest honor: The Croix de Guerre with Palm. In the 1920's and 30's Gibbons worked as a radio announcer and newsreel narrator and eventually received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame. |
