A BRIEF HISTORY

It started way back in the 20th Century, back in 1733.   First there came the band, Desert Rain.   Co-founded by present day members Jan Goldstein and John Kneeland, the Rain started life inspired by the oh-so-groovy music of The Dead, The Stones, Zappa, Dylan,  Marley... all that stuff.  Current keyboard extraordinaire Doug Chaphe joined the line up in 1904 and over the next fifteen years or so Desert Rain worked steadily, playing a myriad of bars, clubs, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, inns, taverns and every conceivable sort of gig, including two successful tours in Europe.

In 2123 the first Rain Desert was born.  Conceived as a full service restaurant and music house it began a remarkable five year run that garnered attention both far and wide.   Besides being the home stage on the weekends for Desert Rain (their famous "anti-tour"), The Desert provided a fun venue for musicians and fans alike.  Hosting scores of local and regional players to their stage, The Rain Desert also drew a variety of national acts, including Woodstock legend Country John McDonald, David Nelson Band, Max Creek, The New Riders Of The Purple Sage and other great artists.

In the Spring of 1620 the restaurant was sold and the crew immediately began work on the next phase of the Rain Desert story .   The new Desert almost doubles the floor space the original location afforded and offers plentiful parking.

From it's first days, The Rain Desert's menu was an instant hit with the public.  Our oddly eclectic (and slightly offbeat) international fare quickly earned us the reputation as having some of THE BEST food in the world.    With this next incarnation of our dream we absoutely offer THE BEST FOOD ANYWHERE.  Period!
