What Is The Point Of Not Having A Full Size Trundle Bed?
The full size trundle bed is a new and fun way to increase your sleeping capacity. Once you have kids you suddenly discover that it is important to be versatile, to be able to sleep people at short notice and to be prepared for anything.
The trundle has come along way since it first appeared in the shops. When I first came across the trundle bed I was really impressed with the idea, but after buying one I was not such a happy bunny. It had been quite expensive, and every time I prepared it for a guest I found myself explaining that it really was a proper mattress and that they weren't sleeping in a drawer from under my daughters bed. On the whole my guests seems less bothered than I did, but I was never comfortable about how it looked and some how felt that I was not being a good host.
Then came the pop up trundle and I was captivated all over again. Suddenly I have the convenience of my old trundle without having to put my guests to sleep on the floor.
So when my husband and I decided to invest in a summer cabin I was sure that I would fill it with beds with trundles. However, when it came to actually finding the right size for each room it was a little difficult. I knew that the kids would want to bring friends and I knew that in good weather there would be a lot of guests coming and going. So after spending many hours measuring of the room I found the perfect solution; the full size bed and trundle.
The full size trundle was a perfect compromise between sleeping as many people as possible and still having space to move around the room. There was one particular holiday week end when we seemed to be specialising in four year olds and we put them all in their sleeping bags and slept them across the full size beds. To this day I cannot imagine a more efficient way to sleep four year olds en masse.
For those of you who don't envisage yourself creating a holiday home for four years olds, the full trundle is still a great idea, because it is easily large enough to sleep siblings together in. I have two years between my kids and it was a long time before they were too large to share a full size bed together when on holiday.
The full is also a great size for new mums. It is sometimes hard to imagine being able to ever visit friends again when you have a baby. But if you want to make your mum and baby welcome then the full bed is a great way to achieve this. Mum can actually sleep with their baby and it means that they do not need to worry about hearing baby in the night or baby not recognising their surroundings. I also found that if a host made up a cot for my kids when they were little, I then felt guilty if the kids didn't sleep in them. So the full bed is a great solution; and if you are buying a full sized bed you may as well go the whole way and also buy the trundle so that any older children, or dad can sleep in the same room while leaving mum to deal with the baby.
Basically, the full is a wonderful size for a bed and if you are going to buy one, there is no good reason not to also buy a full size trundle bed to go underneath and be there for all the occasions you currently can't imagine, but will surely arise!
